poker journal : the grind
going to fire a session of online poker.
my goals are to play good, get in some solid volume, and make good decisions. after the session i want to do a post session recap.
okay. i want to do a big session. 6-8 tables. ideally play until 1 or 2 am, then go for a walk. then a post session recap. mark hands. take notes. make good decisions. pay attention to my mental game. also i want to do a longer more exhaustive analysis
post session recap.
ok. pretty good session. 1 hour 25 minutes. 916 hands. +$43.60
pretty smooth sailing I guess. A slow decline where I was just bricking flop and then bang. This little beauty. Not really an interesting hand strategically. We three bet good aces vs MP raise and CO call on the button 100 bb deep. Very standard. We flop top set and pot it in a low SPR situation. Again, very standard. And we hold vs two flush draws. 62% equity three way is nice.
Okay, so that had was 22:36. At 22:39 just three minutes later this hand occurred. Which was pretty ludicrous. Here we do have at least a little something to analyze. I went for the CO LRR with AAQT rainbow. Perhaps more logical would be to iso the UTG limper. In retrospect that would be my preferred play. That way all it takes is for any player to three bet me and I can four bet, getting a substantial amount of money in. The most likely result if we limp reraise is either we end up limp-reraising to like 10-20 bb or it goes limped around. Neither are actually that exciting with this hand. Our ideal result is to get a substantial amount of money in pre. And we'd rather play single raised than limped.
On the flop we stack off and lose to JTT2. Which is just a wild hand to take two to the face with, and then to smash the case ten. Obviously on this flop we're super happy to stack off with top two for less than 1 SPR.
So then for the next 260 hands we just slowly bleed off chips. For example, we had this hand, which looks so beautiful but really becomes problematic facing a three bet. Maybe our ace or king is dead. Villain was completely unknow. Maybe we could just fold to the three bet.
Some missed draws.
And then we had this very interesting hand. We face a weird in three bet, and then a four bet. Probably better to just fold at this point, but I wanted to gamble. And while the four better was shallow, I was 150 bb deep with the CO who was playing very loose.
Flop 654 rainbow we're not interested in putting any money in obviously but getting 30:1 we do decide to peel. On the turn I figure either of the other players would have gone all in on the flop with a straight given how bloated the pot was. So I all in and ho vs a decent sized draw. This was actually a 360 bb pot, so pretty cool.
